Who is holding you back?

Emancipation from the bondage of the soil is no freedom for the tree.
- Rabindranath Tagore

  1. This quote has a deep meaning. It's saying that in order to free yourself from certain things, you have to believe that you can do it. If you don't believe that you can free yourself, then you'll get nowhere. For example, many people in our history have had to emancipate themselves. They fought and fought for rights that we take for granted today. If they had just gave up when they lost one battle, they wouldn't have won the war. But since they didn't give up and did all that they could, we have a better life because of that. So all in all, we should not stop because of a road block, we should continue on until we make it to the end of the road.

  2. I believe this quote is saying if you dont free yourself, you cant achieve the things that you want to achieve in life ! You have to free yourself from past hurts, disappointments, and more in order to free yourself ! This quote is also saying that we can not let certain things or situations garnish nothing that we want to do.. Just continue to fight... and continue to let go of the past.. so you can achieve and suceed !

  3. Emancipation is freeing something. I think this quote is saying just because you got away doesn't mean you're free. I think this quote might also mean that just because one obstacle is out of your way that doesn't mean there won't be others. Another meaning could be that leaving your support system isn't always the best choice. Without that soil the tree can't live. It doesn't have what it needs. I think this quote is saying that sometimes people are so desperate to be "free" that they jeopardize themselves. They actually hurt their chances of success rather than helping them.

  4. - What this quote means to me is if you wanna free yourself from something you have to believe in yourself to do it . We can't let pointless things keep us down or from lettinq us accomplish somethinq . If you don't free yourself from certain things you will continue to make the same mistakes .

  5. It is sort of complicated to interpret this quote clearly. First you must start with the meaning of emancipation. Emancipation is the freeing of something or someone. Bondage is to hold against will such as slavery. Next you can connect the idea of being free to a tree. Trees are held BONDAGE by the SOIL. A tree often represents freedom. This phrase is questioning the true freedom of the tree. A tree will not always be free just because the soil frees them. The tree has depended on the soil for so long it has never learned how to be independent. The soil has been the slave owner of the tree for its whole life. Because of this, the tree is not capable of taking care of itself.

  6. To me ,this quote is saying that just because someone says you're emancipated, doesn't exactly mean you're free. Some people think that it's another person's fault for them being kept in bondage, when it's really themselves who's culpable.Freedom comes from deep inside and everyone has the power to break free from any type of bondage, rather it's physical, emotional, or mental. It takes a strong person to gather enough courage to even think of escaping bondage.Freedom isn't something just given away; you have to earn it. Earning freedom isn't always an easy thing to do, but you don't have to do it alone.Once you're free from your personal bondage,it's up to you to do something [valueable] with your freedom and remain strong so that you won't return to the grasp of another bondage.

  7. I Believe this quote is directed at the looks on slavery. Even though slavery was ended, blacks had no more rights than they did when slaves. Nonetheless I'd rather them be free, than working themselves to death. Then again they might as well had still slaves because the only job they could get was in the field. To treat any living creature this way is wrong and god does not like ugly. I'm surely glad that life is not like that now. I probably wouldn't tolerate it and have gotten my self killed by now.

  8. Freedom from the soil is not really freedom because the tree cant live without the soil.

  9. The meaning of emncipation is to free something. This qoute means that being free from something is not necessarily always a good thing. Leaving something you heavily rely on, your suppport system, is not always the most positive thing to do. For example, teens tend to try and break away from their parents when in the end they cant function properly without them. "emancipation from the bondage of the soil is no freedom for the tree", in my words that means, "freedom from your parents is not always the healthy thing to do". A child can't survive without their parents. Just like a tree can't survive without its roots.

  10. I believe that this quote is saying that in life we tend to think that by letting go and moving away from our parents makes us free ,but in all reality they are the only reason why we are who we are , and why we are able to be free. Many people tend to think that are parents are stopping us from freedom, but they are the ones who taught us to be strong and without them and their life lessons that they taught us we would fail. When people move away from their parents they want to do everything on their own and they forget about the values and morals they were raised on , because they feel as if , if they keep following the rules that their parents taught them then they won’t be free . It would just be like being under their rules all over again. But those very same rules are the rules that taught them to be strong and independent, but most importantly those rules taught them right from wrong so when they are free they won’t make as many mistakes. Just like with the tree, our freedom is not bound by the soil that holds the tree , because even if the tree was able to get free from the soil , it would just simply fall , because it wouldn’t have the nutrients that the soil contains that helped the tree grow. Just like with us and our parents. So with that being said I believe that we shouldn’t confuse freedom with letting go of your roots that raised you because if you do then you wouldn’t be able to succeed because we would fall without the foundation that we were raised on. So we should appreciate all that we were taught from our parents and we should use it to make us become better individuals and better as a whole society. Because if we don’t just like the tree we would fall , so cherish every lesson that your parents have taught you because it was a reason why you learned it and that reason is for you to use it in life when you do become free and on your own , so you can succeed without too many failures.

  11. This quote is very deep and touching. What it is saying is that you can do whatever you want if you believe in yourself. This quote reminds me of a scripture in the bible John 15:1 I am a true vine and my father is the Gardner. This quote is telling me that you have to free yourself from negative things to gain anything in life. Also it is saying to never give up and keep on pushing, no matter how hard times get. Everytime I think about giving up I think about how my ancestor fought so hard for me to have a better life.

  12. Its saying, don't back down from nothing . in other words move forward with your life, don't let the DEVIL take your JOY away . When you hold stuff back, you start to stress alot. Holding back is pressuring you. push, pace yourself, don't never give up, and don't never HOLD BACK !!!

  13. The quote is saying do what you feel you should do. Do not let anything hold you down. Feel free to what you feel is right. If you do not achieve what you want, then how will you be able to let go? Eventhough it is hard to let go of something, but you have to experience another part of life. Achieve your goals and dreams. The truth shall set you free.

  14. This quote is very thought provoking. I believe it means that because we are free physically doesnt mean we are free mentally. Leaving home or are roots doesn't really mean we are free thoughts our time shared. We must always remember where we came from but always do what it takes to go further. I believe however that if we truley have courage than of course we are free .. free from anything stoping us.

  15. This quote has strong thought provoking meaning. This is examplethe quote s giving is saying that just because you leave soil doesn't mean you escaped the tree root. I'm sure this situation has happened to us one time or another. It could be the simple case of someone trying to escape their past. Or it could be that the person is trying to purposely escape their true selves and the friends try to intervene. I've been through something like this. So I could definitely relate to this quote.

  16. basically i think this quote is saying authority is a necessity and no matter how free you think you are someone will always be in a higher power. the only thing that you can do is not stray away from the life goal that you have set from yourself and let your parent steer you in the right direction !all in all if you stay focused and not try to grow up to fast then you can over come adversity and become a tree and the soil combined to be happily free (Under authority) ! andrea blue 3rd prd..

  17. I think this quote is trying to say free yourself! If you stay stuck to something you will never do what you want to do. Not speaking on relationship terms but jobs and etc. It sort of like drugs you have to let it go in order to go on. That's only one example tho bt the only person holding you back is yourself which is kind of sad. So if you want to do something and be free you must free youself. -Jordan grady. -period 9

  19. this quote is saying that being free is really free . You may be free physically but mentally you are holding on to thing you will never lose. Thats where traits come in. Its like when a child leaves their parents for college , the child may feel free but they won't forget the things they were taught. Passing down the smarts and growing . No one is ever free mentally .

  20. This quote means that if we break free from the most important thing we need to live, that dose not give us freedom. If you take away a person's mind so they can get bliss from the pains of their life that person dies,so are they free or are they dead? This is only one of the rules of equal exchange. For every action there is a equal effect to it,so we must watch what we do in this world. So we must come to terms with are bonds we have. Most people may think that their parents or other superiors are the main thing holding them back, but the truth is the one holding them back is "the man in the mirror".we are holding are selves back by limiting are minds to what we are told we can do.So we must not break away from the bonds that help shape us to be greater than we are expected to be,for those are the roots of are life that we dig deep into the world to survive.

  21. I think this quote is saying you are only as free as you allow yourself to be.Sometimes we allow others to hold us back. If we aloow others to hold us back, we allow ourselves to be in slavery. Our parents are our beginning, if we follow their rules we will some day be free. However, if we don't follow our prents rule, then we will find ourselves in bondage.

  22. -This quote simply means that if don't go out of the safety zone "your parents" , what can you accomplish? Other then living off not yours but their accomplishments. You know the same people that don't leave their parents house till about 30 are the same folks that end up with 3 or more kids because after all that laying on their back nothing else could be accomplish but that. No wonder why parents are now starting to kick us out as soon as possible because look at the society, "grandmas taking care of their daughters' kids". I see it as they had their chance with a baby so why make them raise your. And better yet making something of your self, you wouldn't probably be even having the problem of "kids". So go accomplish things cause I think its definitely worth it !
